Tom Cullinan, vocalist and guitarist, was formerly in Th' Faith Healers but developed their punky sound into a more tuneful but experimental style. Quickspace formed their own record label called Kitty Kitty, but while releasing many of their records through this, also released on other labels such as Domino Records and Elefant Records.

The U.S. release of Quickspace is something of an improvement over the U.K. version, as it adds two of the band's finest singles, 'Rise' and 'Friend,' and removes 'Mousetail.' Bookending the original album with the two relatively fast-paced singles detracts somewhat from the stately flow of the rest of the material, but it does give a better overview of Quickspace's diverse sound. Integrating the new songs into the rest of the album might have worked better, as 'Swisher' and 'Docile Two' are strong opening and final tracks for Quickspace, but overall the album is a fine introduction for U.S. listeners to a unique band.
